With the Great Pacific Garbage Patch constantly sending trash and debris onto Hawai‘i’s shores, local non-profits and volunteers are often overwhelmed. In collaboration with the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, EHF will allocate financial and technical resources to implementing an early detection system in order to monitor incoming debris patches while evaluating coastline pollution in real time. As part of our research effort, a central database will be developed, allowing all actors on the ground to more effectively coordinate and relay the information to the appropriate local, state, and federal agencies.
As part of its mission to showcase, promote and educate the public en masse about Hawaiian culture, tradition, heritage and ecosystem, Eia Hawaii Fund will host an annual family-oriented festival in Honolulu. The Eia Hawaii Festival will showcase the best Hawai‘i has to offer in the areas of culture, history, arts and creativity, while shedding light on the fragility of the ecosystem. With the target of raising $4M over 3 years, the festival’s profits will be entirely allocated to funding our various initiatives and programs. While supporting local businesses, creating jobs, promoting Hawaiian talents and heritage, the festival serves as the main funding source for Eia Hawaii Fund.
